Translating hidden intelligence into living, sculptural forms
We’re surrounded by digital networks that pulse with invisible fields, forces not easily communicated through diagrams. In this exploration, we set out to reveal machine intelligence by translating overwhelming financial, seismic, and AI datasets into dynamic velocity fields and sculptural forms, transforming raw computational streams into visual metaphors.
Data
[Competing Intelligence]
To explore how artificial intelligence processes information and evaluates pathways, we moved beyond traditional geometric inputs. Through conversational prompts with AI, we extracted raw 3D point-cloud data reflecting sentiment and origin, capturing the machine’s hidden decision-making process.
[01] Conversational AI prompts translated into raw 3D point-data coordinates
[02] Exploring the representation of competition through contrasting materials and erosion techniques
[03] Procedural additive and subtractive growth simulations
Using Houdini, we collaged these AI point datasets to drive procedural growth. The process yielded a diverse spectrum of emergent forms, ranging from delicate, spine-like structures to rigid cubist abstractions.
[04] Unique surface details generated through competitive activity
[05] Post-process solidification of form
To elevate these sculptural forms beyond diagrams, we placed them within minimalist museum and gallery settings. Subtle lighting and tactile, diffused materials let the computational sculptures command attention, blending human input with machine intelligence to forge a sophisticated visual vocabulary for future tech storytelling.

[01] Early visual translations testing raw data density and particle movement
After investigating AI reasoning, we turned to the massive physical and financial networks underpinning these systems. Sourcing raw datasets from the COVID-19 market crash, seismic events, and solar flares produced files so vast they pushed our computational limits, underscoring the sheer volume of daily global data.
[02] Colour parameters driving dataset separation during combination tests
[03] Mapping financial and solar values to velocity fields in Houdini to visualise chaotic data sets
The breakthrough occurred when we stopped trying to curate the chaos and instead built Houdini velocity fields for the data to inhabit. The most honest aesthetic wasn’t one we dictated, but one the data created as it competed and negotiated with itself.
[04] Solidified forms crystallising into an analytical, trend-forecasting aesthetic
Beginning as dispersed, erratic noise, particles gradually organised into sharp, angular geometries. By relinquishing direct control, we transformed our system into a generative engine, demonstrating how complex data streams can crystallise into striking sculptural forms.
